After a suggestion from my colleague, I’m working on a kind of ‘self-led’ ICT unit for next half term. I say ‘self-led’ because it includes some ‘how to’ videos I’ve made using Camtasia that show the children what they need to do step-by-step. Of course, I don’t think a tutorial video can replace a teacher, but I can see some potential benefits in a typical ICT suite environment:
- reduced whole class modelling at the start of the lesson
- children can pause and replay at their own pace, which in theory should be a more personalised experience
- a useful for tool for teachers who are less confident with the tools being used
In order to make access easy, I’ve bundled it all together in a Google Docs presentation. At this point, I would love people’s ideas and suggestions on this as I feel it’s something that could be developed further. It would be great to hear from people who have made and used the ‘how to’ video approach in some lessons: pitfalls, tips, hints – all feedback valuable.
Thanks in advance…
